La Bionda

Hotel

Europe, Spain

From $180

La Bionda is an eight-room boutique hotel in a 17th-century building in the center of Begur, a medieval hilltop village on the Costa Brava, about an hour and a half from Barcelona. Opened in 2020 by Carla Lloveras, it is named after her great-great-grandmother, known as “la rossa,” the first woman in the family to run a business. Renovated by Quintana Partners, the interiors are rich in color and detail, and each room is named after a remarkable woman who stayed here in the early 1900s. Guests share an honesty bar, a courtyard with a greenhouse where breakfast is served and a rooftop, with the church square, local restaurants and the coves of the Costa Brava all close by.

Primero Primera

Hotel

Europe, Spain

From $297

Primero Primera is a 30-room hotel in a family home built in 1955 on Carrer Doctor Carulla, in Tres Torres, a leafy residential corner of Sant Gervasi above the Diagonal. The owners’ family has lived on the first floor since the beginning, and the 2011 conversion kept the house’s spacious rooms, parquet floors and original materials, now paired with dark wood furniture and strong-colored rugs. Guests can swim in the seasonal outdoor pool surrounded by gardens, eat Mediterranean dishes at El Comedor, and join the daily manager’s reception. The metro is a five-minute walk away, with Plaça de Catalunya about fifteen minutes by train.

There is a small outdoor pool and roof terrace, a sauna, a fitness studio and regular yoga classes, plus bikes to borrow for exploring the city. Alma Barcelona GL

Hotel

Europe, Spain

From $476

Alma Barcelona sits on Carrer de Mallorca in the Eixample, one block from Passeig de Gràcia and Casa Milà, in a 1940s building with a deliberately understated façade. Its 72 rooms, 18 of them suites, are minimal and calm, echoing local apartments with slatted shutters and wrought-iron balconies, and open by fingerprint rather than key. At ground level, a private garden hidden within the block hosts meals and evening drinks, while the 800-square-meter rooftop terrace looks out over the city in every direction. The hotel also has a Mediterranean restaurant, a full-service spa with an indoor pool, sauna and steam room, and a gym.

Hotel Neri – Relais & Châteaux

Hotel

Europe, Spain

From $458

Hotel Neri sits on Plaça Sant Felip Neri, a small, secluded square in the heart of Barcelona’s Gothic Quarter, a short walk from the cathedral and La Rambla. The building joins a 12th-century medieval palace with an 18th-century Gothic mansion, and the restoration keeps exposed stone, timber beams and arches alongside Mediterranean interiors in deep, warm tones. It is the only Relais & Châteaux hotel in Barcelona, with an intimate number of rooms and suites, a restaurant set beneath stone vaults and a rooftop terrace with a plunge pool overlooking the old city’s rooftops. Pets are welcome.

Cotton House Hotel, Autograph Collection

Hotel

Europe, Spain

From $400

Cotton House occupies an 1879 mansion on Gran Via, in Barcelona’s Eixample, built for a textile family and later home to the city’s Cotton Producers Guild. Designer Lázaro Rosa-Violán restored its marble staircase, ceiling frescoes and the guild’s library, now a reading room, and the 1957 spiral staircase that hangs from the ceiling still leads guests upstairs. The 83 rooms, five of them suites, pair tall windows and dark wood floors with crisp cotton linens, and books and ledgers rescued from the guild line one of the restaurant’s dining rooms. There is a rooftop pool and terrace, a cocktail bar, and an in-house atelier where Santa Eulalia tailors cotton shirts to measure.

Hotel Casa Bonay

Casa Bonay occupies a neoclassical building from 1869 on Gran Via de les Corts Catalanes, in Barcelona’s Eixample district, a short walk from Passeig de Gràcia and Plaça de Catalunya. Its 67 rooms keep the tall ceilings and original mosaic floors, some with private balconies or terraces, and were furnished with a group of collaborators that includes local weavers Teixidors, Santa & Cole and New York interior studio Tack. Downstairs, Libertine works as lobby, all-day tapas bar and late-night lounge, Satan’s Coffee Corner serves breakfast and espresso, and Bodega Bonay cooks for lunch and dinner. On the roof, a seasonal bar opens in the warmer months, and Termas Bonay offers an ofuro dip pool, a

Cap Rocat

Hotel

Europe, Spain

From $680

Cap Rocat occupies a former 19th-century military fortress cut into the cliffs of Palma Bay, with ramparts, stone courtyards and old defensive structures now opening towards an uninterrupted sweep of Mediterranean blue. Suites inhabit former soldiers’ quarters and lookout points, while direct sea access, a cliffside restaurant, saltwater swimming and one of Mallorca’s most atmospheric pools make the fortress feel almost completely removed from the island beyond its walls. The architecture has been restored with remarkable restraint, keeping the scale, silence and drama of the original stronghold intact.

Hotel Bon Sol Resort & Spa

Hotel

Europe, Spain

From $350

Bon Sol has the idiosyncratic feeling of a grand family home that slowly grew down the hillside toward the Mediterranean. Owned by the same family since the 1950s, the hotel unfolds across several whitewashed buildings, lush gardens, stone passageways and terraces before reaching three pools and a small sandy cove with direct sea access. Inside, carved wood, antiques, heavy fabrics and old-school Mallorcan details give it a personality far removed from the island’s polished new resorts, while days can move between swimming, tennis, yoga, spa treatments and long lunches at the water’s edge.
