Aethos Monterosa
HotelEurope, Italy
From $327
Aethos Monterosa is a five-star Alpine lodge in Champoluc, in Italy’s Aosta Valley, set at the foot of the Monte Rosa massif near the Swiss border. Formerly known as CampZero, it was built around mountain sport and still keeps that spirit, with its own indoor ice-climbing wall, bikes to explore Val d’Ayas and easy access to the Monterosa Ski area. Around fifty rooms and suites are finished in warm wood and stone, many with valley or mountain views. Guests unwind in a full spa with an indoor pool, saunas and a fitness area, and two restaurants serve hearty Alpine dishes before and after a day on the slopes or the trails.
The Brecon
HotelEurope, Switzerland
From $800
The Brecon is a 22-room hotel in Adelboden, a village in Switzerland’s Bernese Oberland, set inside the timber frame of a hotel first built in 1914. Founded by Welsh-born Grant Maunder, whose family has skied here for four decades, it was redesigned with the mood of the ’60s and ’70s in mind: Jean Gillon chairs, wool weaves from Wales, a library and art selected by Bisou Gallery. All meals and drinks are part of the stay, from breakfast and afternoon tea to dinner at the chef’s table and nightcaps in the lounge. A guest-only spa, with saunas and a heated outdoor pool facing the mountains, sits a two-minute walk from the ski lifts.
Shiguchi
VillaAsia, Japan
From $1,367
Shiguchi transforms century-old Japanese farmhouses in Hokkaido into highly personal gallery stays. Each villa combines historic timber architecture with art, antiques and contemporary craft, turning accommodation into an encounter with Japanese material culture. The surrounding landscape adds another dimension, but it is the dialogue between old buildings, art and craftsmanship that makes the property especially distinctive.
Forestis Dolomites
HotelEurope, Italy
From $900
FORESTIS occupies a former Austro-Hungarian sanatorium high on Mount Plose, facing the Dolomites from within dense alpine forest. Its architecture is deliberately pared back, with timber, stone and large expanses of glass keeping the mountains constantly present indoors. Wellness, nature and silence are central to the experience, alongside direct access to hiking and ski slopes throughout the seasons.
7132 Hotel & Therme
HotelEurope, Switzerland
From $850
7132 in Vals is inseparable from Peter Zumthor’s thermal baths, completed in 1996 using 60,000 slabs of local quartzite. Fed by the mineral-rich St. Peter spring, the baths are among the most influential spa buildings of the last few decades, turning bathing into an architectural experience of stone, water, shadow and silence. The hotel exists almost in orbit around them, making this one of those stays where the spa itself is the destination.
