Tierra Patagonia
HotelSouth America, Chile
From $1,770
Tierra Patagonia stretches almost horizontally along the shore of Lake Sarmiento, with the Torres del Paine massif filling the horizon beyond it. The architecture follows the natural curve of the land and uses local lenga wood extensively, allowing a 40-room hotel to remain surprisingly discreet within such a monumental landscape. Days revolve around guided hikes, horseback riding and excursions across Patagonia, followed by long views of the mountains from almost everywhere inside.
Awasi Patagonia
HotelSouth America, Chile
From $1,793
Awasi Patagonia has only 14 freestanding villas, each positioned for privacy and direct views towards Torres del Paine and Lake Sarmiento. Set within a private reserve, the lodge is surrounded by native forest and open Patagonian terrain where guanacos, condors, foxes and occasionally pumas can be spotted. Every villa comes with a private guide and 4x4, allowing the experience to be planned around each guest rather than a fixed excursion schedule.
Sowaka
HotelAsia, Japan
From $1,050
Sowaka is a 23-room luxury hotel in Gion, Kyoto’s historic geisha district, a two-minute walk from Yasaka Shrine. Its main building is a restored ryotei from the Taisho era, built in the sukiya style and more than a century old, joined by a modern annex added in 2019. The renovation kept the decorated ceilings and windows, patterned timber, clay walls and sliding paper screens, while each room is individually designed, some with tatami and garden views. Dining centers on seasonal kaiseki-inspired cooking at Gion Loka, and the hotel also has a bar and a courtyard garden lounge. The name comes from a Sanskrit word meaning “may happiness be with you.”
Hotel Miramalfi
HotelEurope, Italy
From $850

Built into the rock above the sea, it has sea-view rooms with tiled floors and terraces, a saltwater pool with a poolside bar and a private sea platform for swimming and snorkeling in the Mediterranean. Guests can unwind at the spa and wellness center, eat at the hotel’s restaurants with views of the coast, and leave the car with the free valet, a rare convenience in Amalfi. Breakfast is included, and small pets are welcome.
