Why we love

  • Cliffside saltwater pool
  • views of Amalfi
  • Straight into the sea

A cliffside retreat a short walk from Amalfi’s center, where terraces step down to the sea and every view takes in the pastel town and its harbor.

Hotel Miramalfi sits on the cliffs at the western edge of Amalfi, about ten minutes on foot from the cathedral and the harbor, on Italy’s Amalfi Coast. Built into the rock above the sea, it has sea-view rooms with tiled floors and terraces, a saltwater pool with a poolside bar and a private sea platform for swimming and snorkeling in the Mediterranean. Guests can unwind at the spa and wellness center, eat at the hotel’s restaurants with views of the coast, and leave the car with the free valet, a rare convenience in Amalfi. Breakfast is included, and small pets are welcome.

Experimental Roma is the Experimental Group’s first hotel in the Italian capital, set in a historic ochre building on Via Veneto, a short walk from Villa Borghese and the Spanish Steps. The restaurant, Ludovisi e Cadore, is led by chef Giovanni Passerini, while the group’s signature Experimental Cocktail Club brings its intimate, after-dark atmosphere to Rome. On the roof, La Terrasse pairs a suspended pool with sweeping views over the city.

Around fifty rooms and suites are finished in warm wood and stone, many with valley or mountain views. Guests unwind in a full spa with an indoor pool, saunas and a fitness area, and two restaurants serve hearty Alpine dishes before and after a day on the slopes or the trails.

Albergo Diffuso Ca’ Spiga

Hotel

Europe, Italy

From $172

Ca’ Spiga is a small albergo diffuso in Laglio, on the western shore of Lake Como, set within the old stone hamlet of Torriggia Alta, around 200 meters above the water and twenty minutes by car from Como. Its eight rooms are spread across restored village houses, with tiled floors, wooden furnishings and, in many cases, balconies facing the lake. There is no restaurant, but breakfast is a highlight, a generous spread of local products served on a panoramic terrace, and the hosts are known for welcoming guests like old friends. One of the lake’s few beaches, Riva del Tenciu, is a two-minute walk away, and Villa del Balbianello and Bellagio are within easy reach.

Hotel Palazzo Guadagni

Hotel

Europe, Italy

From $262

Hotel Palazzo Guadagni occupies the upper floors of a palazzo built in the early 16th century by architect Il Cronaca, on Piazza Santo Spirito in Florence’s Oltrarno, a few minutes’ walk from Palazzo Pitti and the Ponte Vecchio. Its loggia was the first in Renaissance Florence to face Brunelleschi’s Basilica of Santo Spirito, and has hosted artists and scholars since the building became a guesthouse in 1912. The 15 rooms are individually furnished, some with frescoed ceilings, antique fireplaces or views of the Duomo and Palazzo Vecchio. Today the loggia is a rooftop bar serving Tuscan wines at sunset, above one of the city’s most lived-in neighborhoods, known for its artisans and antique shops.
