Achioté

Villa

Central America, Costa Rica

From $480

Set high above Playa Hermosa on Costa Rica’s southern Pacific coast, ACHIOTÉ consists of two minimalist villas designed by Formafatal, each projecting over a steep jungle slope with uninterrupted views toward the ocean. Built using clay excavated directly from the site, the project introduced rammed-earth construction to Costa Rica and pairs those textured walls with concrete, glass and custom-designed interiors. Each villa has its own infinity plunge pool and open terrace, creating a stay that feels closer to inhabiting a contemporary treehouse than a conventional villa.

Nayara Springs

Hotel

Central America, Costa Rica

From $800

Nayara Springs is an adults-only retreat in the rainforest near Arenal Volcano, centred around privacy, tropical nature and hot spring-fed plunge pools. Villas are surrounded by dense vegetation, while wellness and slow days outdoors keep the experience focused on the rainforest rather than resort spectacle. It has become one of Costa Rica’s best-known romantic stays for exactly that combination of privacy and immersion in nature.

Hotel Aguas Claras

Hotel

Central America, Costa Rica

From $540

Hotel Aguas Claras is an artist-led boutique hotel near Puerto Viejo on Costa Rica’s Caribbean coast, surrounded by tropical vegetation and a short walk from Playa Chiquita. Its interiors are colourful, eclectic and highly personal, with art, handcrafted details and a playful mix of Caribbean and vintage references throughout. The result is less polished-resort and more creative tropical hideaway.

Esh Hotel

Hotel

Central America, Costa Rica

From $390

ESH brings a polished, design-conscious approach to Nosara’s jungle landscape, with 29 suites and villas surrounded by tropical vegetation just minutes from Playa Guiones and Playa Pelada. Wellness plays a major role through the spa, movement and restorative experiences, while the architecture keeps the atmosphere intimate rather than resort-like. It is very much part of Nosara’s newer generation of stays, where surf, nature and contemporary hospitality all matter equally.
