“A century-old New Zealand icon where fishing-lodge heritage still runs along the Waikato River.”

Huka Lodge began in 1924 as a simple fishing camp with canvas tents beside the Waikato River and gradually became one of New Zealand’s most storied luxury lodges. A century later, the river remains central to the property, alongside manicured grounds, fly-fishing traditions and a long history of hosting prominent guests. Its recent refurbishment brought a more contemporary polish without erasing the heritage and understated character that made the lodge famous in the first place.

Minaret Station Alpine Lodge

Hotel

Oceania, New Zealand

From $2,340

There are no roads to Minaret Station. Reaching this tiny alpine lodge requires a helicopter flight into a remote glacial valley in New Zealand’s Southern Alps, where towering peaks surround just a handful of private chalets. Once there, hiking, fishing, mountain biking and helicopter adventures begin almost directly outside the door, making the isolation itself the central luxury.

Guests can unwind at the spa and wellness center, eat at the hotel’s restaurants with views of the coast, and leave the car with the free valet, a rare convenience in Amalfi. Breakfast is included, and small pets are welcome.

Meals change daily and draw on local ingredients, served in an open-air restaurant overlooking the water. Coral Sands Inn & Cottages

Hotel

Caribbean

From $1,030

Coral Sands Inn & Cottages sits directly on Pink Sand Beach on Harbour Island, a small island off Eleuthera in the Bahamas, a short walk from the colorful clapboard streets of Dunmore Town. Opened in 1968 by actor Brett King and his wife Sharon, it was recently redesigned in a playful, all-over pink that echoes the shore. Its 38 accommodations are divided into inn rooms, cottages and seaside homes, many with balconies over the water. Guests spend their days snorkeling, body boarding or lounging by the oceanfront pool, with two restaurants and a beach bar on site and a daily manager’s reception at sunset.
